Professional Standards Framework 2023 and the Queen Mary Academy Taught Programmes

The Queen Mary Academy’s Taught Programmes are accredited by Advance HE and programmes are aligned with the Professional Standards Framework 2023.

About the Professional Standards Framework (PSF) 2023

The PSF 2023 is a nationally-recognised framework for benchmarking success within HE teaching and learning support which is managed by Advance HE.  It forms a comprehensive set of professional standards and guidelines for everyone involved in teaching and supporting learning in HE.  The PSF 2023 can be applied to personal development programmes at individual or institutional level to improve teaching quality.

Queen Mary is committed to the continuous development of teaching practice, and is embedding professional standards of teaching into its practice and appraisal scheme, aligned to the PSF 2023.

Dimensions of Professional Practice

The framework identifies the diverse range of teaching and support roles and environments. These are reflected and are expressed in the Dimensions of Professional Practice.

  • Professional Values: underpin all forms of Core Knowledge and Areas of Activity. They are the foundation of professional practice.
  • Core Knowledge: informed by the Professional Values, representing key forms of knowledge required to undertake the Areas of Activity. There are multiple and diverse forms of knowledge which are connected to and shaped by communities and contexts.
  • Areas of Activity: bring together the Professional Values and forms of Core Knowledge, showing the essential activities that support delivery of effective practice.

Taught programmes

Our taught programmes are mapped against the PSF 2023 and enable participants to demonstrate their practice in each of the dimensions of the framework.  The Taught Programmes Handbook provides a detailed mapping of the programme against the UKPSF.

Participants will be also introduced to the UKPSF and its role at the programme induction. Successful completion of our taught programmes leads to recognition from Advance HE as either Associate Fellow (CILT) or Fellow (PGCAP).

As participants’ careers and roles progress, they may wish to make an application for Senior or Principal Fellow.
