Jürgen Groet, Blizard Institute
I am a reader in cellular and molecular biology in the Blizard Institute, which is part of the faculty of Medicine and Dentistry. I am a module organiser for undergraduate and postgraduate taught modules, I lead the intercalated BSc in experimental pathology and am head of intercalated degrees.
I have been a mentor for colleagues who are engaging with the Teaching Recognition Programme for the past 5 years and have mentored over 20 colleagues. Mentoring includes initial discussions on the process, signposting colleagues to the excellent support from the QM Academy, providing examples of successful applications and generating feedback on colleagues’ Reflective Account of Practice.
I have found this role to be a very positive experience, supporting my colleagues in their journey to acquire accreditation, in recognition of their educational expertise. It is a great privilege to witness the improvements colleagues have made to benefit the education of our students. It is also rewarding to see the broad variety of education we provide, through mentoring of PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and all levels of academic staff. It is hugely beneficial for us to gain these accreditations and I would encourage anybody who wants to take this opportunity, to get in touch with their local mentor or the QM Academy.
