I mentored a team of first-year students who participated in the Tech Industry Gold Autumn Challenge competition that I had previously won in 2020. The competition was about coming up with a concept that would improve the student’s experience of getting into employment in the hybrid world. Throughout the mentoring process, there were regular meetings every week which included teaching, questions & answers, and giving feedback. Teaching topics comprised of market research and design thinking to help come up with the idea. Supporting the students helped them to achieve a high position in the competition. Moreover, the topics that were mentored, together with the content learned in their modules have helped build a solid foundation of professional skills and abilities, which can be applied to similar scenarios in their future career. This project also inspired areas of interest that the students could further explore. As a result of this project, I recommended having an optional extension to a curriculum/module, non-graded, where students can learn extra content from mentors that relate to the module to be able to be applied in the industry.
