As part of my 80-hour internship with Queen Mary Academy through the Learner Intern Programme (LIP), I participated in a project regarding Learner Engagement Analytics (LEA), where I focused on understanding students’ privacy and ethical concerns related to engagement data. We conducted focus groups, and after analysis, my key findings were that students want clear, concise and easy-to-understand information regarding LEA practices. In addition, students would like to access and view their data and potentially opt out of its collection. Moreover, students want the university to ensure the data is anonymised and used ethically, focusing on improving student experience and learning outcomes.
