On 25th February, the Geffrye Museum hosted an indoor street party, celebrating the life on the Kingsland Road through workshops and art.

On 23rd February the event 'Seeking Sanctuary - Refugees and Migrants Welcome at QMUL' invited students and residents to view films and hear testimonies about migration and belonging.

Peggy Levitt Lecture
Join us for the public lecture at the Geffrye Museum Thursday 9 March 3-4pm where Peggy Levitt questions how museums around the world make sense of immigration and globalization.
Invaded Homespace
The Annual Lecture at the Centre for Studies of Home was given by prof. Nadera Shalhoub-Kevorkian. The Lecture was also part of the QMUL CritiQues programme on 'Home for Refugee Children'.
Down and Out
Dr Anna-Louise Milne presented the results of a series of translation laboratories with asylum seekers living in France for audiences at the Senate House.
Furthermore, the research project draws on a range of research projects and events hosted at QMU, ULIP, the Geffrye and the V&A:
- ‘The Child in the World’ (three AHRC CDA studentships with the V&A Museum of Childhood, including Eithne Nightingale’s research on children, migration and diaspora; see her website on ‘Child migrant stories: voices past and present’);
- Annabelle Wilkins’ AHRC CDA research with the Geffrye Museum (CSH) on home and migration for Vietnamese people in East London, including those who came as refugees in the 1970s (Geography and SLLF);
- Miri Lawrence’s PhD AHRC CDA research with the Geffrye Museum (CSH) on post-war Jewish suburban homes (Geography and SED), including research with those who came as refugees from Europe;
- Chandan Mahal’s PhD research on ‘Family history, place and diaspora’ (AHRC CDA with the Royal Geographical Society (with IBG)), which includes a focus on the Partition of India in 1947;
- Research by former visiting PhD student Ragne Øwre Thorshaug (NTNU, Norway) on ‘Housing quality, dwelling and home-making in Norwegian asylum reception centres;’
- ‘Globe’ (Leverhulme Artist-in-Residence Janetka Platun working with Alison Blunt and Olivia Sheringham (Geography) and Caoimhe McAvinchey (Drama) on home, migration and belonging, including on refugees);
- ‘Home-city-street’ project funded by the Centre for Public Engagement (Alison Blunt, Casper Laing Ebbensgaard and Olivia Sheringham, in collaboration with the Geffrye Museum of the Home, Eastside Community Heritage and artist practitioners Sue Mayo and Torange Khonsari (public works)), part of which will involve working with Counterpoint Arts, which engages with refugee and migrant experiences;
- Historical research on child migration schemes and institutional childcare (Claudia Soares, Tim Brown, Oliver Gibson and Alastair Owens) with Ragged School Museum..
