Chimpanzee justice

Published:

Psychologist Dr Keith Jensen from SBCS discusses how human children will intervene in conflicts and display empathy by the age of three, while chimpanzees will only intervene when they have been directly harmed. This finding – from a recent study co-authored by Dr Jensen and published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences – could reveal an important distinction between humans our chimpanzees, which could help to understand the development of wide-scale cooperation in modern humans.

This story has been reported in Scienceline.
