The Dorset Echo report that Dr Genoveva Esteban and colleagues from the SBCS and the FBA have discovered an invisible new species at the East Stoke Fen nature reserve in Dorset. Over 30 new invertebrates have been found in the in the Wet Fens Project, which was launched to study ‘cryptic biodiversity’. Dr Esteban said: “Cryptic biodiversity helps natural ecosystems to bounce back in response to environmental change. Local biodiversity conservation will become all-embracing by covering the full range of aquatic organisms that contribute to the proper functioning of an ecosystem.”
