A league table measuring the scientific performance of some 750 universities worldwide rates Queen Mary University of London (QMUL) 9th in the UK and 52nd globally.
The CWTS Leiden Ranking 2014, compiled by Leiden University in the Netherlands, differs from other university rankings by focusing exclusively on measuring citation impact and scientific collaboration.
QMUL receives an overall impact ranking of 52nd for ‘all sciences’, up from 97th position in last year’s table.
QMUL is ranked 10th for medical sciences and in the top 50 in several other subject areas: 37th for life sciences, 37th for social sciences and 45th globally in the cognitive sciences.
The Leiden Ranking is based on data from the Web of Science database of Thomson Reuters. Universities are ranked by their percentage of frequently cited publications, not their absolute number of frequently cited publications.
