To address this, we use the honey bee (Apis mellifera) as an invertebrate model organism, to produce experimental models and data that describe aspects of development, genome plasticity, transcriptional regulation, behaviour and nutrition-genome interactions. We integrate molecular biology, biochemistry, proteomics and state-of-the-art genomic and computational tools combined with hands-on apiculture. All our research hives are on campus and work in the lab is currently funded by the BBSRC, EASI-Genomics and the Polish National Agency for Academic Exchange. We thank the BBSRC, the Royal Society, EU Marie Curie Actions and Queen Mary University of London for previous funding.
