Profile

Dr. Saima Rehman joined Dr. Vidya Darbari’s Lab at the Blizzard Institute, Queen Mary University of London, in 2022 to study the interactions between humans and microbes as part of an MRC-funded project. She employs a combination of advanced Structural Biology techniques, mainly Macromolecular X-ray Crystallography and cryo-Transmission Electron Microscopy, to obtain high-resolution structures of enzymes, which could help develop novel vaccines or drug designs. Dr. Rehman has previously worked in Sweden as a Research Engineer at Lund University and MAX-IV Synchrotron and was awarded a Fellowship at Umeå University, Sweden. In the United Kingdom, she has worked as a Research Associate at King's College London, the University of Bath, and as a Facility Officer at the University of Cambridge, LMB-MRC. She earned her PhD in Molecular Biophysics under the supervision of Prof. Richard Pickersgill from Queen Mary University of London. She also holds an MPhil and MSc in Biochemistry and a BSc in Chemistry. Dr. Rehman has worked at various synchrotrons worldwide, including Diamond Light Source in the UK, MAX-IV in Sweden, and ESRF in France.
