— Dr Fernando Barrio, Director of International Engagement for the School of Business and Management
The School of Business and Management (SBM) welcomes international visiting scholars. There are a number of informal opportunities and formal schemes available for T&R staff wishing to host a visitor. Some visitors self-fund or receive external funding for their visit, others may qualify for some internal QM/SBM funding towards the costs associated with their visit. Schemes are outlined below.
Queen Mary is committed to maintaining its international character and remains true to the ethos of promoting knowledge creation and dissemination without regard to borders or nationalities. Queen Mary acknowledges the great benefit that derives from having a community of staff and students drawn from over 160 countries.
Academic, Research and Professional Services staff should contact our Director of International Relations Dr Fernando Barrio at f.barrio@qmul.ac.uk for more information on what opportunities and funding is available to them.
Distinguished Visiting Scholar are expected to give a public lecture, deliver a doctoral workshop, meet with ECRs and postgraduate research students, and take part in other events designed to encourage intensive discussion of research interests. Scholars will have a strong record of contribution to research in their field. Visiting scholars are senior academics invited by members of our teaching and research staff.
There is no maximum duration of time for a Distinguished Visiting Scholar, but a maximum grant of £5000 is available dependent on the length of the visit.
For more information on any of these schemes please contact our Senior School Research Manager, Paul Giuliani, at p.giuliani@qmul.ac.uk.
Visiting Scholar will be expected to take part in School research activities and to give a research seminar to staff and a workshop for graduate students. Visiting Scholars are invited and sponsored by SBM teaching and research staff.
SBM may award a grant of up to £1000 towards the cost of travel and accommodation and the School will provide desk, computer, library and office facilities for a period of between two and eight weeks.
The aim of this Faculty (HSS) scheme is to attract major international research and scholarly figures to spend a period of time resident at QMUL and to interact with the scholarly community within and between the respective Schools of the Faculty. Entry to the scheme is by nomination from Schools within the Faculty, followed by Faculty Executive approval. Applications should be made by an SBM teaching and research staff member.
Funding usually covers the cost of the Fellow’s on-campus accommodation during the period of residency.
Postdoctoral researchers can find information about our Post-doc opportunities on our jobs site: QMUL Academic Job Vacancies and by contacting who are involved in their areas.
SBM also welcomes applications from PhD research students and Postdoctoral Researchers. You can apply for this as part of the PhD research associate study. Details on how to apply can be found here on the associate study pages.
