Thanks to a QConsult project involving students from the School of Business and Management (SBM), Dr Josh Reiss, Reader in the School of Electronic Engineering and Computer Science, was awarded over £400,000 in grant funding from InnovateUK to support commercialisation of research.
The research involves technologies to synthesise sound effects, leading to a potentially disruptive innovation that replaces traditional means to create sound effects in games, film and television.
Naetiphat (Nicky) Pongamphai and Matea Miljevic of SBM worked in the QConsult project where they performed a detailed assessment of the market and the business opportunity. This information demonstrated the commercial potential of the technology and helped secure the funding from InnovateUK, the UK's innovation agency, which supports new businesses and accelerates economic growth. The funding will be used over two years to enable further research and development and business development, in collaboration with commercial partners.
The project was supervised by Dr Sebastian Forkmann, Prof Stephan Henneberg and Dr Panos Panagiotopoulos of the Business Ecosystems Research Group (BERG).
QConsult is a QMUL scheme that won the Guardian University Awards 2016 in the employability category.
