Dr Zeynep Gürgüç

Profile

Dr Zeynep Gürgüç is a lecturer in Digital Economy. Her main research interests are experimental and behavioural economics, applied microeconomics, and game theory. 

Before joining QMUL, Zeynep worked as a research fellow at Imperial College, visiting lecturer at UCL and lecturer at Universidad Carlos III after completing her PhD in Economics at Universitat Pompeu Fabra. She also worked as a consultant at the World Bank after receiving an MA in International Relations from Johns Hopkins University.

Research

Research Interests:

Zeynep’s main research interests are experimental and behavioural economics, applied microeconomics, and game theory. 

She focuses on applications of these areas within the topics of digital economy, energy sustainability and business models in blockchain. In particular, she investigates the role of new technologies in climate change mitigation and adaptation.

Dr Gürgüç is available for PhD supervision and encourages applications from students who are interested in behavioural and experimental economics. She also welcomes students interested in digital economy and climate change.

Public Engagement

Zeynep regularly collaborates with Digital Catapult, London for her research on disruptive business models in blockchain and digital economy, and she previously held researcher in residence position at the Digital Catapult in 2018 – 2019.

Zeynep has been featured as a guest speaker at various events for her work in blockchain including a podcast hosted by EBRD, Blockchain for Business, Oslo Innovation Week, Token Engineering London,  and London Tech Week. Her work on energy demand management has been featured in the Washington Post.
