I am interested in exploring the effects of migration on women. Like most 1st and 2nd generation migratory groups, in this instance those of South Asia descent, ‘home’ and ‘belonging’ has been divided between the origin- Bangladesh and where I live- the UK.
In my research I will explore the position of women in Bangladesh and British Bangladeshi women. We wear the clothes made by the women in Bangladesh which are exported to the UK, Europe and worldwide. Women, like me, have migrated from Bangladesh, usually due to marriage or as a child – some exceptions were students, have settled in the UK. The migration patterns and the centre for mass production are rooted in colonial history thus linking both groups.
