Project description

Muhammad is a PhD Scholar working in collaboration with Public Management and Regulation Cluster. His research involves exploring the concept and issues of algorithmic governance in the context of policing. He has gathered evidence on maturity of data-driven processes in policing, their role in transformation of existing police practices and overall implications for police governance. His latest work is focused on developing empirical models to explore and understand the challenges involved in implementation of data-driven processes, specifically the algorithmic themes, in police and other public sector organizations.

Biography

Muhammad Afzal holds a master’s degree in Public Administration (MPA) from School of Business and Management, Queen Mary University of London. Professionally, he is a Civil Servant from Pakistan and has a 10 years’ experience of working in police organizations at local and provincial / state level in managerial and operational capacities.

He has actively participated and presented his work in Electronic Government (EGOV) Conference 2020 and his paper was nominated for the best award in “the most compelling critical research reflection” category. He has also presented his work in “Algorithmic Governance” panel during the Netherland Institute of Governance (NIG) Conference 2020.
