Norman Palmer was the academic principal of the Institute of Art and Law, under the auspices of which he provided countless hours of instruction to hundreds of students. His wisdom and intellectual curiosity produced a number of leading publications, including Palmer on Bailment, Art Loans and Museums and the Holocaust, as well as dozens of articles in the area of art and cultural property law. As a barrister, he specialized in the fields of cultural objects, personal property, commercial law and dispute resolution, including the mediation of disputes over cultural objects. His clients included governments, local authorities, cultural institutions, religious bodies, indigenous communities, museum curators, art collectors, art dealers, transporters and insurers. His knowledge and understanding of the field as well as his enthusiasm for it, were unparalleled, and the new LLM programme in Art, Business and Law, which launched in September 2017 is his legacy to Queen Mary.

You must have applied for the Art, Business and Law LLM by 6 April 2024 (if you have applied by this date and not received an offer by 01 May please contact pglawscholarships@qmul.ac.uk quoting your application number and date of initial application

This scholarship will be awarded to those who we deem to have successfully demonstrated their reasoning for being awarded a scholarship based on the following criteria;
The compulsory personal statement should include all of the above information and should be in response to the text as detailed in the ‘How to apply’ section below.
If you are awarded a scholarship you may be asked to assist the Law Marketing Team with marketing activities such as the postgraduate law open evenings and student profiles and videos.
Please note school scholarships are also subject to university-wide Terms and Conditions as well as any course/School/Faculty conditions or criteria outline.
In order to apply for this scholarship please complete and sign the online application form (the link is on the bottom of this page) and a 1000 word (maximum) statement in response to the following;
‘Please explain why you want to study the Art, Business and Law LLM at Queen Mary University of London, specifying the modules you have a particular interest in. What you will bring to the programme and why you feel you should be awarded a scholarship; focusing on your academic and professional achievements (if relevant), any courses or events offered by the Institute of Art & Law that you may have completed or attended, and financial need.'
We will also take into consideration the following documents submitted with your programme application. Please ensure these are all uploaded to the Queen Mary application portal.
Incomplete, incorrect or late scholarship applications will not be accepted or processed.
