City Hall and the Shard
Our postgraduate programmes capitalise on London’s outstanding theatre and performance resources and, particularly, on the Department of Drama’s many formal and informal links with a variety of local and international organisations.
We regularly work with Artangel, Artsadmin, the Barbican Centre, Cheek by Jowl, Live Art Development Agency, the London International Festival of Theatre, the National Theatre, People’s Palace Projects, Project Phakama, and Shakespeare’s Globe. For students interested in developing their experience in the cultural industries, we offer research placements in leading arts organisations. Students also participate actively in the many research and performance events that are a central feature of academic life in Drama at Queen Mary.
Senate House Library
As a student in London you will also have access to an impressive range of libraries, archives, and specialist collections, while you can also visit the city’s numerous galleries, museums, and performance spaces. London’s single most important intellectual resource is the British Library. The library contains over 13 million books, 920,000 journal and newspaper titles, and has unrivalled manuscript holdings.
The University of London (of which Queen Mary forms a part) also provides students with excellent facilities. The Institute of English Studies and the Institute of Historical Research, both located in Bloomsbury, organise a wide variety of seminars, reading-groups, training initiatives, and one-off lectures which you will be welcome to attend. These events attract world-class speakers and enable our students to meet those with similar research interests at other London colleges. Relevant seminar series include the London Theatre Seminar, Queer@King’s, and the London Shakespeare Seminar. Students can also use the University of London Library at Senate House, which boasts an internationally renowned collection of books, and an extensive selection of journals and e-resources.
