Impact and Collaboration

Drama’s impact and collaboration strategy sustains the Department’s longstanding commitment to the role of research in promoting social justice and public benefit. The Department understands impact as the mutual exchange of expertise and insight through research undertaken with a wide range of communities and constituencies. Drama is committed to forms of research that build impact and public engagement into their processes. The Department’s approach to public engagement emphasises the ways researchers can help to create new public spaces and methods of interaction.

Strategy for the promotion of impact and public engagement:

  1. To mentor colleagues at all levels to enable them to fund, sustain and deepen their research practices to produce impactful research;
  2. To sustain long term relationships with communities, arts organisations and artists;
  3. To share best practice among colleagues in the Department through on-going workshops and seminars;
  4. To benefit from on-going collaborations with colleagues across the university to bring the varied forms of expertise at Queen Mary to as wide a range of communities as possible;
  5. To make the research facilities and expertise of Queen Mary available to non-academic participants through structured forms of support such as the Artist Research Fellowship Scheme;
  6. To continue to develop new methods in the facilitation of exchange and cooperation;
  7. To continue to experiment with approaches to the most ethical evaluation of this work.
