My research looks at retellings of the story of 'Hero and Leander' as it travels through literature, painting, music, tapestry, and diplomatic correspondence, between 1580 and 1630. I consider how each of these media influence one other and what this can tell us about people were reading, how they were communicating, and what this can tell us about Elizabethan, Jacobean, and Caroline artistic practice more broadly.
