On Saturday 11 May 2013 the Centre’s ninth annual one-day conference was held at Dr Williams’s Library on the subject of ‘Worship: The Contrasting Practices of Anglicans, Congregationalists, Methodists, and Unitarians over Three Centuries.’ The day’s rich discussion focused on a variety of aspects – institutional, social, literary and conceptual – of both dissenting and Anglican approaches to worship since the eighteenth century.

The lectures were:

‘Liturgy and Worship in England c.1700–2000: The Case of Fasts, Thanksgivings and National Days of Prayer’ by Professors Stephen Taylor and Philip Williamson (University of Durham)

‘Methodist Liturgical Ecumenism: Worship and the “Catholic Spirit” ’ by Professor Karen Westerfield Tucker (Boston University)

‘Unitarians and the Book of Common Prayer’ by Dr Michael Ledger-Lomas (King’s College London)

‘John Hunter’s Devotional Services for Public Worship: “Saving the congregation from the individualism of the minister”’ by Professor David Thompson (University of Cambridge)
