School of Economics and Finance ranked 2nd in London for students' satisfaction

Published:

The School of Economics and Finance at Queen Mary University of London has been ranked 2nd in London in The Guardian University Guide 2018, and 14th among all Economics departments nationally. The School has performed particularly well in student satisfaction with the course, satisfaction with feedback and spend per student.

The Director of Undergraduate Studies Nick Vriend said: "The School’s ranking in the Guardian University league tables 2018 is the reflection of a long-term strategy aimed at creating an engaging, lively and stimulating learning and supporting environment for our students.  The investment in careers resources, with three dedicated careers advisers supporting students’ careers choices, is leading more students to secure graduate jobs. The investment and engagement with innovative learning technologies is helping more students achieving good degrees. Investment in further resources, such as free trading and investment courses run by city practitioners, is not only supporting students’ careers and learning but also confirming the School’s commitment to increase spending whenever value can be created. Of course, underpinning this strategy is an atmosphere of positive and friendly engagement between staff and students of which the School is very proud."

Eight statistical measures are employed for the Guardian University Guide subject rankings. Measures relate to both input – for example, expenditure by the university on its students – and output – for example, the probability of a graduate finding a graduate-level job. The measures are knitted together to get a Guardian score, against which subjects and institutions are ranked.
