Meijun Guo, BA, MAPhD Student in Comparative LiteratureEmail: m.guo@qmul.ac.ukProfileProfileMy research focuses on William Morris's ideas on political aesthetics, with questions about the relationship between art and socialism, and the positioning of his ideas within the Western Marxist tradition. Focusing on literature, decorative arts, and socialist practices, I plan to situate Morris within the history of Victorian England, examining the political, economic, and cultural circumstances of the time and focusing on his resistance to the British capitalist system. At the same time, I will explore how Morris's socialist ideas, in relation to Marxism, were involved in constructing and shaping the Marxist tradition in Britain. In so doing, I aim to gain a deeper understanding of the value of Morris's artistic socialist ideas, as well as to seek ways to interpret Morris's ideas in the context of the new era. I hold an MA in Comparative Literature and a BA in Chinese Language and Literature from Shaanxi Normal University, China. Now I am pursuing a PhD degree in English Language and Literature at the University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, China. My research is funded by the the China Scholarship Council.
