Profile

I joined QMUL in 2014, where I completed my BA in English and MA in Contemporary Writing. Whilst studying the module 'Ancient Myth, Modern Theory' on my undergraduate degree, I became interested in Antigone in particular, and this was the subject of my undergraduate dissertation. I built on this during my MA, and my MA dissertation focussed on Antigone in contemporary novels.

My PhD research currently examines how Antigone has been received in contemporary adaptations, looking at issues of classical reception and particularly the question of ‘What constitutes an Antigone story?’. Much of my research also involves theoretical discussions surrounding Antigone-Irigaray, Lacan, Hegel, Judith Butler to name a few.

Outside of my PhD, I work as a freelance editor and tutor, and volunteer for Girlguiding - the largest all woman organisation in the UK - as a leader. You can follow on me on Twitter @AbbieMJukes.
