Profile

Mira has many years experience as English Language teacher and teacher of English for Academic Purposes, both in Further Education and Higher Education.   At Queen Mary she specialises in developing and teaching discipline-specific courses in Critical Thinking and Writing, and currently teaches Masters and undergraduate students in the following subjects: Politics and International Relations; Public Administration; Comparative Literature; Modern Languages.

A skilled linguist, she worked as a conference and community interpreter in English/French for 20 years.

Before her current focus on writing, her Masters degree in museology formed the basis of a parallel career - acting as learning consultant to museum curatorial teams engaged in exhibition making.

Research

Publications

Mira has worked as consultant to Cambridge University Press on two important mono-lingual dictionaries:  The Cambridge International Dictionary, and the Cambridge Learners dictionary.

She is the author of four picture books for young children, published in both English and French by Tate publishing and éditions MeMo, and contributing editor of Playing with Design, a monograph on the work of Fredun Shapur, her father, a key graphic and toy designer of the 1960s and 1970s.
