Dr Martine van Driel is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow on the ESRC-funded project ‘Autistic Adults Online’ (PI: Dr Nelya Koteyko) which investigates how autistic adults use social media to build and maintain relationships. She received her PhD from the University of Birmingham in 2018 for her thesis on reader responses to online news texts. In 2020, she graduated from the University of Birmingham with a PGCHE and became a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. From 2018 to 2020, Martine worked as a teaching fellow at the University of Birmingham, and was employed as a postdoctoral research fellow on a GCHQ-funded project investigating conversation structure in digital chat.
Her research interests lie on the boundary between media studies and linguistics, where she focuses on the interaction between users/audiences and digital texts.
