Time: 8:15am - 6:00pm Venue: ArtsOne Lecture Theatre
This one-day symposium aims to encourage dialogue across disciplines about the importance of a multimodal paradigm for investigating the media.
The day consists of two keynote talks, three practical workshops, lightning talks and poster presentations. Our confirmed speakers are Dr Tuomo Hiippala, Professor Carey Jewitt, Dr Richard Misek, Aneurin (Nye) Wright and Dr Sumin Zhao. Postgraduate students and researchers from a wide range of fields, including but not limited to linguistics, education, media and communication studies, film studies, drama and literary studies, should be interested in this symposium. If you would like to discuss the insights/challenges you have with regard to multimodality in your work (in progress), please check out the call for abstracts - AMim 2019 - call for abstracts [PDF 462KB] - and submit your abstract for lightning talks (8 minutes) and poster presentations here.
Meanwhile, you are also very welcome to the symposium even if you have yet to draw on multimodality theories, but are simply curious about “reading beyond words” – how meanings can be constructed multimodally in various types of media. More information about the symposium can be found here. If you have any queries, please contact the organizing team at lpc.qmul@gmail.com.
Look forward to seeing you all there!
