PGR Training: Bayesian Statistics

When: Wednesday, October 16, 2024, 2:00 PM - 4:00 PM
Where: Bancroft 3.17, Mile End Campus

Part of our PGR training programme, this event is open to PGR students only, including MA, MRes and PhD students. Please click 'book now' to sign-up in advance.

This training session will be a gentle introduction to Bayesian statistical analysis with PhD student Scott Kunkel.

In this workshop, you will learn the basics of how to conduct Bayesian statistical regression models in R. After briefly discussing the main underpinnings of the Bayesian statistical framework, we will run a Bayesian analysis together, covering how to…

1. Visualize the relationships between variables of interest

2. Define model and priors in a Bayesian model

3. Fit a Bayesian regression model to quantiative data

4. Check for model convergence

5. Car

6. Try out inferences based on the model output

7. Visualize the model output

To get the most out of this workshop, please come with R Studio installed on your computer. If possible, please also install the following packages from R: readxl, rstan, brms, bayestestR, tidyverse, bayesplot, cmdstanr (no problem if you can’t install these beforehand –we can do this at the beginning of the workshop).

Feel free to reach out to me with any questions at s.kunkel@qmul.ac.uk !
