What advice would you give to new students thinking about studying with us?
If you are thinking about joining us in SLLF, make sure you take time to look at the range of facilities offered as well as the modules offered on the course that you are interested in. Come to the open days to ask any questions that you have so that you can make an informed decision about how the course and SLLF suits you.
Why did you choose to study at QMUL?
I chose to study at Queen Mary due to its reputation as well as its close location to central London. The diversity of the university was also something that I wanted to be involved in. The fact that it is a campus-based university within London and is a Russel Group university were very enticing factors.
What attracted you to your programme?
I was attracted to study English Language and Linguistics at Queen Mary due to the wide range of modules offered in the second and third year. When attending the Open Day, I had the chance to discuss the course in more detail with current students and academic staff who were enthusiastic which made me want to be involved in the department.
What do you enjoy the most about your course/QMUL?
The best things about my course have been the engaging modules and enthusiastic lecturers who put their all into delivering interesting content. I always feel supported by my lecturers, as they are willing to help with any of the content and ensure I have a good understanding of it.
How do you think studying your degree is helping you to reach your future career goals?
By studying this course, I believe that I am developing my critical thinking and research skills with many modules offering a chance to hone specific skills. The chance to develop skills such as independence and adaptability whilst studying my degree will greatly help when applying for work in the future, as employers often place value on well-rounded individuals.
How do you like to spend your time away from your studies?
When I am away from my studies, I quite enjoy having a coffee and going for walks around the local area. I also like to watch films, particularly at the local cinema which is about a 15 minute walk away from campus.
What you would like to do after you finish your studies?
I would like to do a PGCE in order to get Qualified Teacher Status. This will allow me to fulfil my goal of teaching secondary school students.
Do you have any advice for students moving to/ studying in London?
Although it may be a very daunting experience and you may at times feel overwhelmed, get involved with events run by the student union and make friends within your course or accommodation. This will make things easier as you'll have peers you can relate with and can experience London together. London has plenty on offer and is so diverse that you'll be sure to find something that you enjoy. I would really advise exploring the city and allowing yourself a chance to take in its beauty.
