UNCHAINA: Chinese Feminist Activists in London
When: Thursday, March 6, 2025 - Saturday, March 8, 2025, 2:00 PM - 5:00 PM
Where: ArtsOne Building, Foyer & BLOC, Mile End

Join us for a three-day exhibition and screening event exploring the vibrant and radical histories of Chinese diasporic queer feminist activism, funded by the Centre for Public Engagement QMUL.
Through art, film, and collective storytelling, this event traces how Chinese diasporic feminists have found each other, mobilised across borders, and challenged patriarchal and nationalist narratives. It highlights the ways in which feminist organising has emerged in response to political repression, gendered violence, and the erasure of women and queer voices in both state and dissident movements.
The exhibition features materials from over 20 feminist actions in recent years, including hand-painted protest posters, banners, artistic works, and on-site audiovisual records of street activism. These materials are not only testaments of resistance but also document how actions take shape, how connections are built, and how feminist struggles continue to grow and expand.
This three-day event is a space of reflection, resistance, and solidarity—connecting struggles from China to the diaspora and beyond. From grassroots organising to global feminist alliances, we invite you to engage with stories of courage, defiance, and collective action.
