Introduction from Pedro Nilsson-Fernández: My work mainly focuses on looking at representations of space in Manuel de Pedrolo's corpus, with a particular emphasis on those works in which his representations mirror or offer distorted versions –particularly on his science-fiction and fantasy works– of 20th Century Catalan landscape. The three main genres/group of works I have studied in depth are science fiction, crime fiction and his realist yet highly experimental novellistic cycle Temps obert. In the analysis of all three genres, my approach combines traditional research drawing on spatial theories with the use of digital technologies – mainly GIS, through digitisation, geotagging and visual representations of text. This digital approach attempts to capture, classify and better understand the different spaces Pedrolo chooses to represent in his work.
