Alumna, Gabriella Castillo, was commended by Duke and Duchess of Cambridge last month at a Joint Ministerial Council reception.
Gabriella Castillo (Hispanic Studies and Politics BA, 2021) from the Cayman Islands was recently recognised for her role in educating residents of La Carpio, Costa Rica about sustainable waste management.
Gabriella, who helped to create Queen Mary's Environmental Sustainability and Action Plan and Sustainability Policy, said, "It feels good to be ‘seen’, as the worsening effects of climate change threaten our biodiversity, culture and the livelihoods of our people, it’s more necessary than ever to have these conversations and share the experiences that small island nations and people of the global south have with climate change."
