On the 20th anniversary of the awarding of the Nobel Prize to José Saramago, the Project Brazilian Writers Abroad, convened by Prof. Else R. P. Vieira, Modern Languages and Cultures) and the José Saramago Foundation invite all to the World Conference Literary Frontiers: Brazilian Writers Abroad and Portuguese Writers in Brazil (Lisbon 21-23 February)
Fifty Lusophone writers are contributing to the Conference. It opens at the Barraca Theatre in Lisbon on February 21st with a recital by the writers followed by a concert. On the 22nd and 23rd, the keynote speakers, Pilar del Río Saramago (President of the Foundation), Nélida Piñon (first woman President of the Brazilian Academy of Letters , residing in Lisbon this year) and Prof. Vieira will be reflecting on the deterritorialisation of literature, including that of Saramago whose major writings were produced outside Portugal.
The writers attending will be reflecting on their experiences along the themes of hybridity, literary landscapes, psychological landscapes, literary language, editorial processes, readership and so on. Ten publishing houses will be contributing as well.
A collective book launch at the Café do Rio is also part of the initiative.
The Project Brazilian Writers Abroad is convened by Prof. Else R. P Vieira, under the auspices of the Brazilian Ministry of Education and integrating Queen Mary and the Federal University of Juiz de Fora.
