My research will compare the translations of Jane Austen’s nineteenth-century novel Pride and Prejudice (1813) into Arabic by a male and a female translator, respectively Mohammed Badran (2019, Egypt) and Taghrid Fayad (2019, Lebanon). It also analyses the Arabic subtitling of the film adaptation (2005). The comparative study will shed light on the significant distinctions between the literary and the audiovisual translations along two axes: culture and gender. It will also discuss linguistic and technical aspects of the translations.
