This will now allow you to choose to study Catalan, as a beginner, with one of the following; French, German, Russian or Spanish as part of a joint degree.
Or you could choose to study Catalan, as a minor subject in a three language degree.

Catalan is a Romance language spoken in the regions of Catalonia, Valencia, and the Balearic Islands (Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentera), in a part of Aragon, Roussillon and Alghero, by over 10 million people. It's the language spoken in Barcelona, and also one of the four official languages spoken in Spain.
Even though you may be starting out as a beginner, you will be taught Catalan in small groups so you will quickly be able to communicate on a daily basis. High-level knowledge of Catalan will give you a distinct advantage on the job market in Spain. At the same time, there is a close consideration at QMUL of the rich culture produced in both Catalonia and beyond. You will be able to take modules covering Catalan theatre, cinema, football, painting and literature. You will enjoy the benefits of the Centre for Catalan Studies at Queen Mary, the only university centre of its kind in the UK.
You’ll spend part of your third year studying in a Catalan-speaking region of Spain. This gives you an exceptional opportunity to develop your language skills through immersion and boost your intercultural competence.
The 2017 National Student Survey gave 100% overall student satisfaction for Iberian Studies at Queen Mary (which includes Catalan, Portuguese and Spanish). This made it joint top in the UK.
In the 2018 National Student Survey, students gave us 97.1% which put Queen Mary first in the Russell Group for this subject.
