The School is committed to creating a work environment that is safe, professional and of mutual trust where diversity and inclusion are valued, and where everyone is entitled to be treated with courtesy and respect.
You are asked to:
Behave professionally
Harassment and sexist, racist, or exclusionary comments or jokes are not appropriate. Harassment includes deliberate disruption of talks or other events, inappropriate physical contact, sexual attention or innuendo, deliberate intimidation, stalking, and photography or recording of an individual without consent. It also includes offensive comments related to perceived individual characteristics, for example, age, disability, gender, gender identity, nationality, physical appearance, sexual orientation, race, or religion.
Communicate in an appropriate way for a professional audience of many different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Sexual or sexist language and imagery are not appropriate.
Be respectful
Do not insult or belittle other members of the university or visitors (fellow students, colleagues, attendees or facilitators of an event). Critique ideas rather than people.
Help colleagues in distress
Should a School of Physical and Chemical Sciences member witness events where an individual appears to be suffering bullying, harassment or aggression, we recommend that they approach the colleague to offer support and help. The witness may also wish to suggest that the individual report the inappropriate behaviour.
Respect individual privacy
School members, and participants in school events, who may wish to share photos of individuals (speakers, participants) or a speaker's materials (talks/slides) on social media, are strongly recommended that they first get the individual's permission.
