Waters Synapt G2Si HDMS

Waters Synapt G2Si HDMS

The Waters Synapt G2Si HDMS is the newly acquired state-of-the art mass spectrometer by the school of biology and chemical sciences. This High Definition Mass Spectrometer (HDMS) uses T-Wave ion mobility to maximise specificity and sensitivity of an analysis. The instrument features QuanTof Technology to reach 50,000FWHM resolving power, exact mass of less than 1ppm RMS with mass lock correction, and accurate isotope abundances.

The Synapt GSi i n the SBSCS Mass Spectrometry Laboratory interfaces with a Waters Acquity H-class UPLC for UPLC-MS/MS and UPLC-MSe analyses, and it provides a unique platform for:

  • MS/MS and MSe analysis for structure characterisation
  • Qualitative and quantitative analysis of small and large molecules, proteins and lipids in complex matrices
  • Peptide Sequencing, Peptide Mapping and disulphide bridge analysis
  • Protein Identification and Intact Mass analysis
  • Targeted and untargeted -omics
  • Absolute quantitative proteomics and lipidomics

This instrument is not an ‘open access’ instrument, and only for the use of the SBCS Mass Spectrometry Laboratory. Reservations can be made here.

Bruker Autoflex MALDI-TOF

(Matrix Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization – Time Of Flight)

The Bruker AutoFlex MALDI-TOF MS provides analysis non-volatile, soluble and insoluble  molecules such as proteins and peptides, and large organic molecules like polymers and dendrimers. The mass spectrometer is equipped with a 355nm pulsed UV laser and can operate in linear and reflectron, positive and negative modes.

MALDI mass spectrometry applications include molecular weight determination, molecular weight distribution, lipids profile and analysis of protein-protein interactions.

MALDI-TOF provides a high mass range (up to 100,000 Da), high mass resolution and high mass accuracy, and it can also be used for quantitative analyses.

Access to this instrument is restricted. QMUL researchers can use it upon training, and by scheduled appointment here. Please email the SBCS Mass Spectrometry Laboratory for more details.

Agilent 6890GC/5973MSD

Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry is an analytical method for the separation and identification of volatile and thermally stable molecules with a mass up to 800 amu.

The GC-MS system comprised of a 6890N GC for split and splitless analysis, a 5973 mass selective detector (MSD) with electron ionisation or chemical ionisation (positive and negative modes), and a 100 sample AutoSampler and Automatic Injector.

This instrument is an ‘open access' and no scheduling is required.

Agilent 1100 HPLC System

Bruker Autoflex MALDI-TOF

The 1100 series high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) system from Agilent features a quaternary pump, a temperature controlled autosampler, a column thermostat, a diode array detector (DAD) and a fluorescence detector (FLD).

The system is best used for separation (SEC, HILIC, RP), identification and quantification of polar and non-polar molecules using spectral analysis (DAD) and sensitive detection of fluorescent molecules.

This system is an ‘open access’ instrument and requires reservation.

Agilent 1200 – Bruker Esquire 3000 Plus Ion Trap

Agilent 1200

This HPLC-MS system consists of an 1100 Series HPLC in-line with an Ion Trap MSD . Its also used for separation, identification and quantification of polar and non-polar molecules; particularly useful for the analysis of small and large molecules.

The system has a quaternary pump, a temperature controlled autosampler, a column thermostat and diode array detector. The MSD has ESI, APCI and Nanospray sources, and a standard mass range of 50 - 4000 amu, and an external syringe pump for direct infusion analysis.

This system is an ‘open access’ instrument, and it does not require reservation.

Atomic Absorption Spectrometer (AAS)

The Varian 220FS SpectrAA Atomic Absorption Spectrometer allows measurements of a wide range of trace metals (and some non-metals) using flame and electrothermal atomisation techniques. Automatic multiple element analysis of samples can be programmed using a sample preparation accessory.

This system is an ‘open access’ instrument and requires reservation.

Malven Panalytical MasterSizer 3000

Malven Panalytical MasterSizer 3000

The Mastersizer 3000 is a particle size analyser which uses laser diffraction to accurately measure particle size distributions for both wet and dry dispersions.   The instrument has a large dynamic range and caplable of mearuring particle sizes from 10nm up to 3.5mm in diameter.

The instrument is a demo instrument from Malvern Panalytical and it can be used following a brief training.   Researchers from outside institutions are welcome to come and visit the SBCS Mass Spectrometry Laboratory for a full demonstration.

Schedule a training session by emailing the SBCS Mass Spectrometry laboratory.

This system is an ‘open access’ instrument and requires reservation.

Malven Panalytical ZetaSizer Ultra

Malven Panalytical ZetaSizer Ultra

The Zetasizer Ultra is used to measure particle and molecular size from less than a nanometer to several microns using dynamic light scattering; the instrument features zeta potential and electrophoretic mobility using electrophoretic light scattering, and can estimate molecular weight of particles using static light scattering. Schedule a training session by emailing the SBCS Mass Spectrometry laboratory.

This system is an ‘open access’ instrument and requires reservation.
