A free three-day, non-residential programme available to budding physicists in Year 10.
The summer school takes place in July each year. Dates for the 2025 programme are not yet confirmed.
See below for some photos taken in previous years. Click here to read what previous summer school attendees had to say about their experience.
Students experienced exciting physics taster lectures. Examples of the topics covered include neutrinos, computational physics, and gravitational waves. Photographed is Dr Linda Cremonesi delivering a talk on neutrinos.
Students had the opportunity to carry out experiments in our Physics undergraduate teaching laboratories.
Students experienced a guided tour of our astronomical observatory, where they had the opportunity to view the sun through the Solar Telescope.
Students took part in 'Shattering Stereotypes' workshops throughout the course of the summer school. Shattering Stereotypes is a programme designed by SEPnet to tackle and raise awareness of gender stereotyping in schools.
Students worked in groups to create posters all about their summer school experience. They presented these posters to academic staff from the Department of Physics and Astronomy.
Prizes were awarded for the best poster!
