Plus Magazine, which is part of the Millenium Mathematics Project, has featured a collection of short articles based on the research of Dr Sanjaye Ramgoolam (CRST, QMUL) in the area of Linguistic Matrix Theory. In this research programme, initiated in a collaboration of Dr Ramgoolam with computer scientists Dr Dimitri Kartsaklis (Cambridge Quantum Computing) and Dr Mehrnoosh Sadrzadeh (University College London), a newly developed permutation invariant Gaussian random matrix theory has made successful predictions of statistical moments for large datasets constructed from natural language. The mathematics of the matrix theory draws on research in gauge-string duality and the datasets are constructed using techniques from computer science.
