Accommodation
Unfortunately, we were too late to get accommodation on campus, but luckily there are a variety of affordable options a short distance from QMUL. Prices are as of March 2023, please book early to avoid prices going up!

Drink reception:
There will be a drink reception on Monday 5th June at 6 pm. Location GO Jones Building.
Dinner
The collaboration dinner will be on Thursday 8th June from 6pm onwards at The Dickens Inn.
The function room and bar are booked for us until Midnight.
For those who booked the dinner, I will circulate a google form to book your starter/main/dessert.
Transport and getting around
To and from the airport(s):
London has several airports, the vast majority of you will arrive at Heathrow (LHR) or Gatwick (LGW). Both are very well connected to Central London by public transport - there is no need to take a taxi. If you have a contactless debit / credit card / Apple Pay there is also no need to buy a ticket. Simply scan your card or phone at the entrance and exit barriers to the platforms and the lowest fare will be calculated for you.
From Heathrow:
Unless you are on a very tight budget, the option which gives the best balance of cost versus time spent is to take the newly opened Elizabeth Line. It runs all the way from Heathrow to many central London stations (including Paddington and Farringdon). Follow signs posted in all terminals for Elizabeth Line (or “Underground” until you pick-up signs for the Elizabeth Line). To get to Queen Mary you can take the Elizabeth Line to Whitechapel, changing to the District line which can then take you to Stepney Green or Mile End for the University.
If on a tighter budget, the Piccadilly Line also runs from all terminals at Heathrow to Central London - it will take a little longer though.
From Gatwick:
LGW is not connected to Central London via tube but there are lots of mainline trains which depart from the railway station at South Terminal. You have two options. One, take a “Southern” or “Gatwick Express” branded train to London Victoria which connects to the District line Underground (see LHR section). Two, take a “Thameslink” branded train to London Blackfriars which then connects to the District line.
For those arriving at Stansted (STN), Luton (LTN) or City (LCY), please reach out to us if you’d like some advice on getting to the meeting from any of those.
Paying for Tube/Train/Bus Travel
The easiest and cheapest way to pay for all tube/train/bus journeys is with a contactless debit / credit card or Apple Pay. You can just touch the card on the yellow reader at the gates as you enter and finish your journey. Even if the gates are open (which sometimes happens at night or at stations further from Central London), you must remember to tap both in and out, or you will automatically be charged the maximum fare, which is very costly! You don’t need to touch out at the end of a bus journey.
If you have multiple contactless cards in your wallet, be careful that you only tap the card you wish to use, or you may be charged more than once. If you make multiple journeys in a day, you may benefit from an automatic daily payment cap, but this only works if you use the same payment card throughout the day.
If, for any reason, you cannot use a contactless payment card or Apple Pay, you can visit a ticket window at the entrance to the tube or train station at either Heathrow or Gatwick airports, and purchase an Oyster Card. There is a non-refundable £7 deposit, plus a pre-loaded amount of your choosing. Any remaining balance from this pre-loaded credit can be refunded to you at the end of your trip or kept for a future visit to London! The credit on your Oyster card never expires.
Do not be tempted to buy a paper ticket or day travelcard, as these fares are always much higher than the daily cap which automatically applies to either contactless or Oyster payments.
