ATLAS physicists from the QMUL PPRC group have been participating to the CERN Open Days on September 14 and 15 2019. For two days our Ph.D. students, researchers and academics have been engaged into several activities: from baking proton cookies with red-blue-green valence quarks to acting baristas at the science cafe, from welcoming the thousands of visitors to the ATLAS site and building LEGO detectors with them to taking them 100 metres underground to see the majestic ATLAS detector.
During CERN Open Days, 75000 visitors have explored the numerous CERN sites and almost 3000 visited the ATLAS underground caven. 3000 volunteers worked two days non-stop for making this possible: from QMUL PPRC Marcella Bona, Tom Charman, Alison Elliot, Murrough Landon, Jesal Mandalia, and Jacob Oliver.
