Congratulations to Xiaoqi Liu for passing her viva on the development of bulk heterojunction radiation detectors as a part of the Particle Physics Research Centre and the Centre for Condensed Matter Physics.
QMUL develops novel organic radiation detectors
We have developed devices that are able to detect alpha particles and survive exposure to radiation for a significant period of time while remaining operational. This is work toward organic neutron detectors, and is part of a broader programme that includes a collaboration with the AWE Ltd. We are especially pleased with this achievement as Xiaoqi is our first PhD student to graduate in this developing area of work. The figure illustrates the dark current subtracted diode response in forward and reverse bias with and without radiation.
