Jones Building, Room 415ProfileTeachingResearchPublicationsSupervisionPerformanceGrantsProfileAs a member of the PPRC, my primary research interests are in the areas of particle physics, large scale scientific computing, and machine learning. Within particle physics I make measurements of Higgs bosons as a member of the ATLAS experiment at CERN, search for magnetic monopoles with the MoEDAL experiment also at CERN, and preparing for the next generation of large neutrino experiments as a member of the DUNE experiment. I am also involved in the management of large scale computing resources for UK scientists through my roles in the STFC IRIS project and the GridPP project.TeachingMy teaching Currently, I tutor for the Synoptic Physics module(PHY300) that runs in Semester A and am module organiser for the module on Introduction to C++ Programming (PHY4321) that runs in Semester B.ResearchResearch Interests:My research interests I am interested in the origins of the masses of the fundamental particles. I have been involved in the search for the Higgs boson in its incarnation within the Standard Model and in a number of supersymmetric models. I was one the two official representatives of the D0 experiment on the Tevatron New Physics and Higgs Working group. This group performs the statistical combination of the results of Higgs searches at the two experiments that ran at the Tevatron proton-anti-proton collider at Fermilab near Chicago, IL. I was also an important contributor the continuing search for the standard model Higgs boson for the CMS experiment at the LHC at CERN, working on the key channel where the Higgs boson decays to two photons. This culminated in the discovery of a Higgs-like boson in July 2012. My work in Higgs physics now continues on the ATLAS experiment where I am interested in measuring the physical properties of the new boson and how it interacts with the other fundamental particles. These measurements will reveal the nature of the new particle and tell us whether we have indeed found the boson predicted by the standard model, or perhaps something new that we cannot yet explain.Publications2016 Measurements of the Higgs boson production and decay rates and constraints on its couplings from a combined ATLAS and CMS analysis of the LHC pp collision data at $ \sqrt{s}=7 $ and 8 TeVAad, Georges et al.JHEP, Volume 1608, page 045.
