Project Title: Investigating the Thermodynamic Properties of Quantum Nano-systems
Content: I will be creating numerous devices in a lab that consist of source and drain electrodes with an island in between. The island has a gate electrode attached which allows me to tune the potential of the system to only allow single electrons to move to and from the island. We can also have several materials for the island such as a metal, a quantum dot or even organic matter. I will be creating and testing these devices to study their thermodynamic properties whilst also looking at their effectiveness as transistors.
This project will include the following activities:
1) Fabrication of devices using a Nano Fraser.
2) Studying the properties of chips containing several devices.
3) Coding a simulation to predict how these systems will behave.
