Supervisor: Professor Matteo Palma Content: Single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) as one-dimensional (1D) materials offer advantages in terms of affinity to biomolecules, electrical conductivity, and near-infrared fluorescence. Significant innovations of SWCNTs on electronic devices demonstrate great interest and high expectations of the material. The main challenges of organising SWCNT into devices are economical processability and micro-scale controllability. This project will include the following activities: Conjugate functional moieties as fluorophores, aptamers and peptides to SWCNTs through covalent and non-covalent bonds. Use various functionalised SWCNTs as blocks to build up large-scale well-organized SWCNT patterns. Furthermore, to test the SWCNT devices and explore the potential application. The ability to produce functionalised SWCNTs layers with a scalable, low-cost approach should take us a step closer to next-generation device applications.
