QMplus Assessments: Tips, Tricks & Lessons Learned

The 2024 January exam period is fast approaching, I would like to take the opportunity recirculate a helpful article which was originally published earlier in the year. It is called “QMplus Assessments: Tips, Tricks & Lessons Learned” written by Training and Support manager Alysa Bramble. It was compiled from suggestions from the TELT team who have experience offering support to QMplus users on this topic. There is a section for general guidance as well as specialist separate ones for Assignments and Quizzes. The tips are useful for all assessments throughout the year not just in the exam period. Please check it out.

Let’s Meet… Jorge Freire

This month we are delighted to meet Jorge Freire, whom we welcomed to QMUL close to two months ago.
Jorge is one of 3 new Senior Learning Designers in FMD. Read on to learn more about Jorge’s work and his interests both in and outside of QMUL.

Podcasts

Have you ever wanted to create a podcast or wondered how you can use it in teaching or assessment?

TELT were recently approached by the School of Geography to run a teaching session on how to create a podcast for their students. This has subsequently aroused interest from other areas of the university are keen to use this format for teaching and student assessment. If you’re interested in finding out more and would like to take part in our “So you want to make a podcast?” training session, please read on…

Making Mentimeter a safer space for students

While Mentimeter is an excellent tool for promoting student interaction and participation both in-person and online, experience has shown that its characteristic anonymity also carries with it a risk of disruptive or even abusive comments being posted and viewed by others.

To mitigate this risk, we have produced a guide showing how to promote safer usage by means of the Mentimote remote control, filtering language and moderating comments. Please follow this link for more information about this.

Online Surveys Version 3 is here

Online Surveys is upgrading from v2 to v3! All existing users will have received an email from Online Surveys about this change.

Both versions will run in parallel until February 29, 2024, when v2 will be switched off. You will need to export your survey structures and response data by this date, as they will not automatically migrate to the new version. Exporting survey structures and response data is straightforward and can be done from the ‘Design’ and ‘Analyse’ tabs of your surveys. Existing users will see a link to Online Surveys v3 when they log into their account and can start using this version if they wish.

If you have any questions about this change, please read Online Survey’s helpful FAQ or raise a IT Service Desk ticket. If you don’t know what Online Surveys is and want to learn more, please visit the Online Surveys page on our website.

TELT Student Drop-in Sessions: The Student Ambassador experience

After a successful Welcome Week, our student ambassadors recently began offering drop-in support sessions for students to have their technology-related questions answered by TELT Student Ambassadors. Learn about Vandy and Ella’s experience hosting the student drop-in sessions.

Qudos Corner

This month we’d like to say big thank yous to:

Tatiana Costa, Polly Todorova and Christian Grozdanov for telling us how they use Ivanti, which helped shape our guide mentioned in this newsletter.

Gill Ritchie and Yanna Nedelcheva for all their hard work in making the QMplus upgrade a success and continuing to resolve the post upgrade issues. We could not have done it with you.

TEL Support via the ITS system (Ivanti)

If you have an issue or query about a TEL application, there are 2 ways to raise a ticket for the TEL support team: one way gets your query in front of our team quicker.

You can contact the Service Desk team (e.g., by emailing servicedesk@qmul.ac.uk) and wait for that team to assign a ticket to the TEL support team, or if you’d prefer to bypass this initial triage, you can raise a ticket in the ITS system (Ivanti) following the steps outlined on our website: TEL Support via the ITS system (Ivanti). If you raise the ticket using these steps, it will be automatically allocated to the TEL support team.

FAQs

This month we have some answers to your questions about: editing Zoom recordings, accessing Q-Review recordings and accessing mandatory training courses using the new CPD system.
