AI in Education

Person using AI for work or educationWe know AI is revolutionising education by creating personalised learning experiences, enhancing engagement, and improving outcomes for teaching and learning practices. Concepts around assessment & feedback, engagement & analytics, accessibility & inclusivity, are all being affected and improved by various AI-infused technologies.

QMUL / ITS / TELT are all exploring avenues where AI is used to leverage new and existing tools we use for pedagogical practices. This page aims to share useful resources and also update site visitors with the latest information and updates on pilots and projects.

Principles and Guidelines

  • Russell Group universities joined together to develop guidelines around the use of AI tools. This has been created to help universities ensure students and staff are ‘AI literate’ so they can capitalise on the opportunities that technological breakthroughs provide for teaching and learning. • View the Russell Group principles on the use of AI tools in education.
  • Queen Mary has an interdisciplinary Exploration of AI, Ethics and Social Impact Group (AIESG). Find out more about this group.

TELT COP AI Channel

  • TELT have developed a Community of Practice MS Teams site of which AI is a prominent channel. Here all educators, academics, and professional services staff are able to share, discuss and collaborate on AI-related concepts. It is also an informative place to find out about undertaken research, workshops, webinars, and other upcoming events.
  • The MS Teams site is open to all. Why not sign up and join the discussion.

FMD Working Group / Student Resource

  • For 2023/24, alongside TELT, the faculty of Medicine and Dentistry (FMD) launched a QMplus resource on 'AI for Student Learning and Research'. Engagement and feedback was hugely positive, and the project was also an award-winning venture. Any school within QMUL can express interest in using this resource with their students, so please get in touch if this is of interest.

Other AI Information

  • Jisc are an organisation that try to bring universities, trends, technologies, and training together. They have an extensive range of AI-related information which might be useful. Access the Jisc resources
  • Some useful links can be found from other HE institutions, including Leeds, who have produced FAQ’s for staff and guidance for students.

Looking Forward

  • AI is fast moving and ever evolving into all parts of education. We will update this page when possible and so please watch this space for more information on future projects, pilots, events and updates across our technologies used throughout QMUL.
  • If you would like to discuss anything further, have an idea, seen AI work elsewhere, or are simply interested in hearing more about AI, please get in touch with TELT’s Enhancement Manager, Zaheer Daleel.
