Built in 1887, The Octagon was originally the Queen Mary library and is now utilised for exams and other events. Famous writers such as Chaucer and Shakespeare line the walls of this grade II listed building, while philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle line the ceilings.
This lively student hub caters for a range of needs. Here you will find our on-site gym (QMotion), Draper’s Bar and Kitchen and all of our union shops. This is a great space to hang out, grab a bite to eat and meet other students.
Where East London life meets tranquillity, Canalside is the most picturesque spot on campus. It’s a popular student hangout, particularly during the summer, where you can spot an array of greenery and wildlife.

This state-of-the-art building was designed by leading architect Will Alsop, and opened by HRH The Princess Royal, Chancellor of the University of London in 2005. A centre for education and research, it was designed to evoke associations with cellular and molecular forms.
