A publication by researchers from the Centre for Microvascular Research at the William Harvey Research Institute has received the highly prestigious Servier Award in Microcirculation.

The Servier Award is given every two years by the European Societies for Microcirculation and Vascular Biology to an outstanding publication on microcirculation/vascular biology in basic or clinical research.
The 2019 award went to Girbl et al., Immunity, 2018: 49, 1062–1076. Distinct compartmentalization of the chemokines CXCL1 and CXCL2 and the atypical receptor ACKR1 determine discrete stages of neutrophil diapedesis.
On receiving the award, Centre Lead Professor Sussan Nourshargh said: “My colleagues and I are delighted. Using very advanced microscopy methods, our paper describes for the first time the cascade of molecular cues that guide neutrophils through inflamed blood vessels, demonstrating the complexity and exquisite control of this vital immune response. The work has attracted much attention within the fields of leukocyte migration and inflammation and has opened many exciting and novel avenues of future research.
I’m also delighted that through this Award, the first author Dr Tamara Girbl, a former BHF Fellow, will deliver a prize lecture at the forth coming joint meeting of the European Vascular Biology and European Microcirculation Societies in Maastricht in April.”
Study author Dr Tamara Gibrl will receive the award on Thursday 18 April 2019.
