The BSc Pharmacology & Innovative Therapeutics degree programme led by Dr Sadani Cooray at the William Harvey Research Institute at Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry has topped the national subject leader board and is currently number one in the UK having received the highest overall ratings in the 2021 National Student Survey (NSS).

The programme has now achieved three consecutive NSS successes including 100% overall satisfaction in the 2020 NSS.
The BSc Pharmacology & Innovative Therapeutics degree at QMUL is offered either as a three-year undergraduate degree programme or as a 4-year degree programme with a year abroad or a year in industry.
The degree programme was designed to meet the skills gap identified by the pharmaceutical and biotechnology industries. Students are given a strong foundation in biomedical science and molecular and clinical pharmacology whilst gaining an understanding of the drug development cycle, from initial idea to the patient’s bedside, through studying drug regulation, safety, bioethics, clinical trials, risk/benefit assessments and personalised medicine. The programme also explores the practical aspects of managing a pharmacology business, including research and development costs, pricing, marketing and licensing.
Dr Cooray said “We are thrilled that once again our BSc Pharmacology students have recognised the high-quality teaching and support offered on our course. This outstanding result is a testament to the dedication, commitment and hard work of the entire team of academics and administrative staff involved in delivering the course. We are extremely proud of every single one of our students and would also like to thank them for their remarkable dedication, resilience and hard work during this very challenging time especially due to the COVID-19 pandemic”.
