Dr Andreas PapamichailSenior Lecturer in Global HealthCentre: Centre for Public Health & PolicyEmail: a.papamichail@qmul.ac.ukProfileResearchPublicationsProfileI joined Queen Mary in September 2019 and worked as a Lecturer in the School of Politics and International Relations until April 2023, when I moved to the Centre for Public Health and Policy in the Wolfson Institute of Population Health. I am the Director of the MSc in Global Public Health and Policy and the module lead for Applied Research Methods 1 and 2. I have previously worked as a Teaching Fellow and Postdoctoral Research Associate at King’s College London, and I obtained my PhD from the School of International Relations at the University of St Andrews in 2018. While completing my PhD, I worked as a consultant for the Regional Network on Equity in Health in Southern Africa on several projects focusing on health in eastern and southern Africa. At King’s, I worked with colleagues across institutions in the UK, Lebanon, Palestine, Jordan and Turkey on the R4HC-MENA research partnership. Both my teaching and research interests span the fields of International Relations and Global Health, with a primary focus on global health security and global health governance. I am a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy and, while at King’s, won a university-wide award for inclusive education.ResearchResearch Interests:My research interests sit at the interface of International Relations and Global Health, with a focus on global health governance and global health security, broadly speaking. I am generally interested in critical approaches to global health governance and examining the adverse (intended or unintended) effects of global health policy, especially on minoritized communities. My most recent article, in International Affairs, examines the effects of COVID-19 on international order by examining the racialized consequences of the pandemic and the global response to it. Alongside Professor Sophie Harman, I have recently published the second edition of a book on global health governance, which offers an overview of key actors, approaches, and issues, in global health governance for students, scholars, and practitioners of global health. I have also researched on global health research partnerships, and the ethics of global health security, among other things.
